Atreyu (pronounced Ah-TRAY-you) is a gorgeous and elegant 15 year old Dutch Harness Horse with a fun and playful personality. He is shy and curious, and a hard worker. Atreyu was bound for slaughter in Bastrop Lousiana Kill Pen when I saw him and brought him home with the help of Bayou State Equine Rescue and Adoptions who assisted with his transport.
Atreyu is a steady boy and is the new go-to for American Melody Carriages weddings and carriage events and rides.

Most Dutch Harness Horses are known as "head up" and ready to go types, so they are not normally used for carriage rides. They are liked by some Amish sects as buggy horses because they are flashy and can get to town quickly. They are thicker built, but not as bulky as a normal drafty type horse typically used for plowing and other farm work. They are frequently used in eventing by many riders, and for CDE events. Atreyu is a perfect gentleman and a hard worker, and is content to walk along nicely for weddings and carriage rides. He loves attention and is a great choice for a horse hugging session, plus his beautiful elegance makes him a great choice for any photo shoot!
