Lucky Star is a 7 year old Thoroughbred racehorse who came to American Melody Meadows on December 28th 2023 from Peabody Kansas Kill Pen.  Lucky was very sick when he arrived and had infection oozing from various places in his body, was severely swollen, had the worst case of rain rot I've ever seen in my life, and could barely walk because of a severe infection in his front feet.  Lucky took a long time to recover and had to shed and re-grow both soles on his front feet, gain weight, have medicated baths, and chiropractic adjustments from trying to walk while compensating for the pain in his front feet as they healed.  He was brought into the front yard to be treated and given extra attention while his body worked to heal from the inside out.  Because of this, he is extra spoiled and attached, and he is very grateful.  At one point, while giving him his morning medicine he laid his head and neck against his new person, as if to give me a hug and say "thank you for helping me".  Some might say that Lucky is lucky, but I say, we're the lucky ones to have this special guy. 

 

Now Lucky can be seen racing around the field and playing with the other horses as if he was never sick or neglected.  He enjoys trail riding and loves attention and treats.   Lucky is also super smart, and can open the feed room door, and sniff out any treat you might be hiding in your pocket!
